WORDS ON WATER Home Point Marina 6.15pm for 6.30pm departure. The 2018 Tasmanian Poetry Festival kicks off in its home city on board the Tamar Odyssey as twilight settles over the Tamar River. SLAMDUGGERY AT THE FESTIVAL! Return to the Festival’s weekend home, St Ailbe’s Hall, 46 Margaret St., for a light meal and performances by Arielle Cottingham and Jesse Oliver. Slamduggery will offer $75/$50/$25 prize money and entry is open to all except Festival or Spotlight Poets. Otherwise register on the night. MCs Yvonne Gluyas and Angus King. Meal bookings ESSENTIAL. SPOTLIGHT POETS! Five local poets will warm up the microphone for five of our esteemed Guest Poets. MCs Evie Wood and Colin Berry. Readings by Michael Aiken, Gabrielle Journey Jones, Helga Jermy, Amy Bodossian & Quinn Eades. Featuring Soup, bar, bookstall and everything you need for a perfect day of poetry!
7.30pm THE LAUNCESTON POETRY CUP
It’s on! The seminal event of the Festival since 1985, and now in its 34thyear, the Launceston Poetry Cup throws open the challenge to any willing poet: if you can generate the loudest audience response in under a minute with your poem, the silverware is yours. Open to everyone and anyone! It’s loud, it’s contagious, it’s the most fun you’ll ever have in verse. Enjoy a light supper as contestants battle valiantly for the honour and glory that is winning the Launceston Poetry Cup! MC Cameron Hindrum.
Sunday October 8 at ST AILBE’S HALL
1pm– 4.30pm: Join us at St Ailbe’s to celebrate the work of each of our 2018 Guest Poets, who will all read at this event. Broadcast live on City Park Radio, live-streamed on Facebook and recorded for posterity! MC Joy Elizabeth. Be there for Yvonne’s famous scones and the Festival raffle draw. Help us bring down the curtain on another fabulous weekend feast of contemporary verse.
