The 2017 Tasmanian Poetry Festival kicks off in its home city on board the Tamar Odyssey as twilight settles over the Tamar River. Featuring readings by some of our Guest Poets.

FRIDAY NIGHT READINGS: Return to the Festival’s weekend home, St Ailbe’s Hall, 46 Margaret St., for a light meal and readings by some of our Festival Guest poets. This event will feature Open Mic readings for anyone who wishes to share a poem (5 minute/2 poem limit).

Saturday October 7 at ST AILBE’S HALL
10.30am-12.00 noon MID MORNING POETS: Readings by Festival Guest Poets + open mic.
12.30-1.30pm LUNCH: Enjoy the lovely ambience of some live music and enjoy fine fare from Launceston’s fleet of food trucks, or wander into the CBD or up the street to Cuccina for a fabulous meal and coffee. Lingua Franka, a presentation of poetic responses to the work of Frank Zappa, will be playing throughout the day.
1.30-4.00pm SCONNETS! Readings from our Guest Poets and open mic. with afternoon tea with fresh scones, jam and cream on sale in the break.
7.30pm THE LAUNCESTON POETRY CUP
It’s on! The seminal event of the Festival since 1985, and now in its 33rd year, the Launceston Poetry Cup throws open the challenge to any willing poet: if you can generate the loudest audience response in under a minute with your poem, the silverware is yours. Open to everyone and anyone! It’s loud, it’s contagious, it’s the most fun you’ll ever have in verse. Enjoy a light supper as contestants battle valiantly for the honour and glory that is winning the Launceston Poetry Cup!

1pm– 4.30pm: Join us at St Ailbe’s to celebrate the work of each of our 2017 Guest Poets, who will all read at this event.
Broadcast live on City Park Radio and recorded for posterity!
